What to do with this activity?
Talk to and involve your baby in your preparations for Christmas – they love to hear the sound of your voice. Let them touch and feel decorations. Show them Christmas lights and their reflection in mirrors and in Christmas balls - they will see that something new and exciting is happening. When you are out and about, show your baby decorated shop windows or animals around a crib. Explain as best you can what it is all about.
Tell your baby what you are doing if you are cooking, baking, setting the table, writing cards or wrapping presents for Christmas.
Play is one of the main ways that babies and toddlers learn about the world – it’s also one of the most effective ways they learn. When a child plays they refine learning skills that continue to develop during childhood and beyond.
As a parent, you are your child’s best playmate so try to spend time every day playing together. As your baby gets older, don’t try to teach them anything during play. They will learn best if they choose what to play and you follow their lead.
