What to do with this activity?
Encourage your child to read and talk about different places in our wonderful world. Expand their horizons! For instance, find out all about China.
Click on the yellow activity link below for information on China from the National Geographic Kids website.
With your child compare how people live in Ireland with the way people live in other countries like China. There are so many different ways of living, and no one way of living is the right way. People eat different food and wear different clothes; they speak different languages and have different customs. Enjoy the differences.
The Great Wall of China is one of the wonders of the world - a real feat of human engineering built around 2000 years ago. Find out about it here.
Children gain confidence in speaking through demonstrating their knowledge to others. Chatting and listening to your child will help build their communication skills. Talking about words and their meaning in everyday life will also help build your child’s vocabulary – and your own!
Funny stories are interesting and a good excuse to get your child talking. At mealtimes, each family member could tell something interesting or something funny that happened during the day. Watching TV together can also provide a good opportunity for chat and to discuss what you are watching. Check if your child understands different things they hear and encourage your child to teach you new words and things they have learnt.
