Board games

What to do with this activity?

Encourage your child to play board games. They are great family entertainment, and your child will learn some valuable lessons, for instance:

  1. Enjoying a social activity
  2. Taking turns
  3. Thinking and planning skills
  4. Making decisions
  5. Winning and losing gracefully

The shops have lots to choose from, including Snakes and Ladders, Junior Scrabble, Ludo and Cluedo. They are usually not expensive. Choose games that are within your child's ability, and make sure to have fun.

  • Why am I doing this?

One of the ways children learn is through play. A child who is playing is refining learning skills that continue to develop during childhood and beyond. Indoor and outdoor games are a great way of practising some of the reading, writing and number skills your child has learned.

  • How can I do more?

Encourage your child to teach you a game – letting them teach you something is empowering for your child.
