Make believe

What to do with this activity?

Try and make time to join in with your child´s pretend games when they ask you. Be the audience for your child if they want to put on a show for you.

Have lots of old clothes at the ready for dressing up. You could also have face paints and old jewellery available for your child to explore. Let your child try on the clothes and explore other props like hats, face paints and old jewellery. Encourage them to make up a story to act out.

  • Why am I doing this?

One of the ways children learn is through play. A child who is playing is refining learning skills that continue to develop during childhood and beyond. Indoor and outdoor games are a great way of practising some of the reading, writing and number skills your child has learned.

  • How can I do more?

Encourage your child to teach you a game – letting them teach you something is empowering for your child.
