What to do with this activity?
Nowadays velcro-fastening on the majority of children's shoes makes life a whole lot easier. However, there are still many shoes with laces to tie, and more so as your child grows older.
Tying shoe laces is an important skill to learn. It can be quite a challenge for you and them, especially if they are trying to tie laces as they dress for school. Knowing how to do it will give them increased confidence. So learn how to tie shoe laces without the pressure of the morning rush.
Here are two fun ways of learning:
1) With a practice board made out of cardboard - a great idea from Kids Activities Blog.
2) With a skipping rope - a suggestions from Montessori for Learning.
Why am I doing this?
One of the ways children learn is through play. A child who is playing is refining learning skills that continue to develop during childhood and beyond. Indoor and outdoor games are a great way of practising some of the reading, writing and number skills your child has learned.
How can I do more?
Encourage your child to teach you a game – letting them teach you something is empowering for your child.
